As an experienced glass factory, we often receive inquiries: what types of glass are available for doors and windows? This question sounds simple, yet it directly affects heat insulation, sound insulation, safety and service life. Poor selection will lead to high replacement costs and poor living experience. Today, based on our practical production experience in the factory, we sort out common glass categories to help you avoid pitfalls during selection.

1. Clear Float Glass

It is the most basic type, also known as clear glass. It features good light transmittance and affordable price, but its strength is relatively low. It will form sharp fragments once broken, suitable for scenarios with low safety requirements. Meanwhile, it serves as the base material for deep processing, and many processes start with this substrate.

2. Tempered Glass

Tempered through high-temperature heating and rapid cooling, it is several times stronger than ordinary glass. It breaks into small granular pieces that cause less injury, making it the mainstream option for doors, windows and shower rooms. It is also the most mass-produced product in our glass factory. Note that cutting and drilling must be finished before tempering.

3. Insulated Glass

It consists of two glass panes with an air cavity in between, delivering excellent sound and heat insulation performance. Argon gas can be filled into the cavity to further reduce heat transfer. It is the top choice for energy-saving doors and windows, ideal for families troubled by noise or large seasonal temperature differences. It is worth prioritizing if budget permits.

4. Laminated Glass

A PVB film is sandwiched between two panes. Even when shattered, fragments stick firmly to the film and will not fall off easily, offering high safety. It is widely applied in floor-to-ceiling windows, sunroom roofs and railings.

5. Low-E Glass

Coated with a low-emissivity layer on the surface, it reflects infrared rays. It blocks heat in summer and retains indoor heat in winter. It works best when combined with insulated structure. It is standard for high-end doors and windows and meets current building energy-saving trends. Though the upfront cost is higher, it brings long-term benefits.

6. Fire-resistant & Decorative Glass

Fire-resistant glass resists cracking under fire, used for fire-rated doors and windows and other special areas. Hot-melt and artistic glass focus on decoration, adding unique aesthetics to doors and windows.

Closing Remarks

There is no absolute good or bad for door and window glass. The suitable type depends on application scenarios and budget. Feel free to consult our factory if you have doubts. We can provide proper solutions according to your usage, and accept custom samples. Send us your sizes and application requirements for quotation.
